Popo this!

We have just come back from a BIIIIGGG trip all around Mexico! It was so wonderful, we went to all of the colonial citys plus a drive in Zoo! Yes, it was awsome. One thing that we noticed is that there was no "problems" anywhere. All was calm and peaceful. Everyone was buzzing along doing thier thing. From our point of view there seemed like less American tourists around. Probably because of all the coverage in the states on the violence in Mexico. But we met many, many, Canadians, and Europeans having a great time!

It is a shame that the media in the US loves the gore, and i suppose it does sell. Luckily for us most of the violence is near the US border a three day drive from here! Yay!

So this photo is the volcano that the Mexicans call Popo although it has a much longer and imposible to say name, Popocatépetl which means smoking mountain (!). It was cool. Just sitting there smoking away like nothing was going on underneath. But in 2001 it sprayed ash 25 km and all of the surrounding villages were evacuated. The last major erruption was in 1947 before that. So people seems to think that one is due...yikes!!

Hi, Jim & Eva,
You guys just popped into my head this morning (could be the Hacienda Eden postcard sitting on the computer desk!) and I thought, "Gee, I should got check and see what they've been up to on their blog." What a coincidence that you just updated it a couple of days ago. Your travels sound amazing and I agree that the American media has completely overblown the violence down there - or at least they're making it seem like the entire country is dangerous for tourists. It's ridiculous. My sister got married back in March and they changed their Mexico travel plans to Hawaii b/c they were concerned! I told them they were crazy, but oh well... I hope you'll post more photos of your travels around Mexico... not long now before you guys cross the pond?! All is well here. Kevin & I are gearing up for our honeymoon in France - thanks to a home exchange, we'll be there for the entire month of July!! And since neither of us have been to Europe, we're extremely excited! We'll be bringing our bikes and plan to ride/eat our way around the country!! Best wishes to your beautiful family. We'll look forward to reading more about your adventures on your blog.

Hey Eva,
I agree with you about the safety. My sisters and I just did a two week road trip from the southern part of Quintana Roo, through the Yucatan, Campeche, a bit of Chiapas, all of Veracruz straght through to Texas. It was beyond fabulous. The scariest part for me was the passing frenzy on two lane roads with no shoulders! The trip was gorgeous.
